Pakistan's Major Political Parties Unite for Older People's Rights

Lahore – In a historic move, representatives from Pakistan’s major political parties have come together to advocate for the rights, needs, and challenges of older people. This collective support is a significant step towards creating an inclusive and equitable society in Pakistan.

The political leaders, including Members of Provincial Assembly Punjab from PMLN, PPP, JI, IPP, Haqooq Khalaq Party, PMLQ, and PTI, have expressed their support for strengthening the legal framework surrounding the rights of senior citizens. A key focus area is the enactment of the Senior Citizen Law in Punjab, which is home to a significant portion of Pakistan’s older population, and currently, 6.32% of Punjab’s total population is aged 60 or above.

The Foundation for Ageing and Inclusive Development (FAID) Pakistan extends its gratitude to Rural Community Development Society (RCDS) and the Buzrug Dost Network (BDN) Punjab Chapter for their invaluable collaboration in achieving this milestone.

This unity among political parties is a positive step towards advancing the rights of older people in Pakistan. We look forward to continued leadership from political representatives in championing the rights of older people and furthering the cause of an inclusive Pakistan.
