Inclusive Humanitarian & Resilience Programme

Older people can face heightened risks during disasters, climate-related events and humanitarian crises, particularly when emergency systems do not adequately consider age, disability, mobility and health needs.

FAID promotes inclusive humanitarian action and climate resilience by ensuring that older people are considered throughout disaster preparedness, response, recovery and resilience planning.

Our work includes inclusive disaster risk reduction, preparedness and early action, accessible WASH and shelter, mobility and assistive support, continuity of care, and community-based recovery.Evidence from major disasters highlights the importance of age-inclusive emergency planning.

During the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, 56% of those who died were aged 65 and above, despite older people representing a much smaller share of the population. Source: United Nations.

Through its humanitarian and resilience work, FAID supports systems and communities to better anticipate, respond to and recover from crises while ensuring that older people are not left behind.
