Voice

Pakistan is experiencing a significant demographic shift. According to the 2023 Population and Housing Census, 6.4% of Pakistan’s population, nearly 15.4 million people is aged 60 years and above. As the number of older people grows, ensuring their meaningful participation in decisions that affect their lives is increasingly important.

FAID works to strengthen the voice, leadership and participation of older people by establishing and strengthening Older People Associations (OPAs) and Intergenerational Community Associations (ICAs), supporting community-led advocacy, and facilitating engagement between communities and government institutions.

FAID also provides technical support to Senior Citizens’ Councils at provincial and national levels, while promoting rights-based awareness, civic participation and community monitoring of services and policies.

Through these platforms, older people are supported to raise their voices, advocate for their rights and contribute to decisions that shape their communities.

With more than 200 OPAs and ICAs supported across Pakistan, FAID is working towards a society where older people are recognised not only as beneficiaries of development, but as active participants and contributors to it.
