Consultation on the Implementation Plan for ICT-Senior Citizens Act, 2021

On December 5, 2024, FAID, in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Rights, organized a consultation in Islamabad to discuss the Implementation Plan for the ICT-Senior Citizens Act, 2021. The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from government departments, the Older People’s Rights Network (OPRN), and community members.

The consultation was chaired by the CEO of FAID and the Director General of Development, Ministry of Human Rights. Participants reviewed the implementation matrix developed for the Act, which was shared with relevant departments and stakeholders for discussion. Each department examined the clauses applicable to their mandate, provided feedback, and considered suggestions from civil society and the community. Cross-recommendations were also exchanged among departments and organizations to ensure comprehensive planning.

During the discussions, non-applicable clauses were clarified, and actionable suggestions were adopted. The finalized matrix will be presented in a scheduled meeting of the Senior Citizens Council later this month. This meeting will aim to secure approval for the Financial Rules of the Senior Citizens Fund and finalize the Implementation Plan.

The consultation was attended by representatives from prominent government entities, including the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Human Rights, Ministry of Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Planning Development & Special Initiatives, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, Ministry of Health, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Capital Development Authority (CDA), and Ministry of Religious Affairs.

This consultation marks a critical milestone in advancing the rights and welfare of senior citizens under the ICT-Senior Citizens Act, 2021. It reflects a collaborative effort to address the needs of older people and ensure their inclusion in policy implementation.
